Meet DJ J Carbon

Open-format DJ, MC, livestream host and music curator. Built in nightlife rooms, sharpened on live streams, and driven by one question: what does this crowd need right now?

The story

Learned in the room

DJ J Carbon’s journey began with curiosity, observation and relentless practice. While working and hosting in a bar, she found herself drawn to the booth: asking working DJs questions, watching how they read a room, recording her own mixes and asking for honest feedback.

That learning turned into a routine of roughly 30 to 40 hours of practice a week. The DJ J Carbon brand officially launched in 2023, and she began actively DJing around 2024, going on to play recurring and event-based sets at Oeste, a six-month Tuesday run at Bar 355, and nights at Fluid 510, AU Lounge and Afro Rave at The New Parish.

Identity

Oakland energy. Toronto soul. Trinidad fire.

Her sound carries several worlds at once: Bay Area nightlife, Toronto, Trinidad & Tobago and the wider Caribbean, R&B and hip-hop, and the open-format club culture that ties them together.

A set might move from 90s and 2000s R&B into hip-hop, dancehall, soca, Afrobeats, house, pop, rock or an unexpected throwback, depending on where the crowd wants to go. The genres change; the goal stays the same.

Approach

Understand the audience. Create the energy. Make it personal.

DJ J Carbon doesn’t run a fixed playlist. She reads the room, watches how people respond, and changes direction in real time, whether that’s a packed lounge, a wedding dance floor, a corporate event or two thousand people in a livestream chat.

She’s just as comfortable on the mic as behind the decks, and experienced with long-format sets of two, four and six hours that keep the flow from first song to last call.

Café Carbon

An early-morning show with a loyal crowd

Every weekday at 7 a.m. Pacific, DJ J Carbon opens the doors to Café Carbon, her live show on TikTok. It’s a virtual café where the music is the morning caffeine: people pull up from across time zones to talk, request the vibe and start the day together.

That show has grown into a real community, with more than 700 hours of LIVE broadcasting, 400,000+ LIVE views and 11.1K followers. It is also where DJ J Carbon sharpened her crowd reading and hosting in front of a live audience every single morning.
